Bathurst and The Central West – An Ideal Choice For The 53 rd Jaguar National Rally

It’s been 3 weeks since the Rally weekend in Bathurst; less since the end of the Post-Rally Tour and, for many of us, the afterglow or post-event let down syndrome persists. I’m still feeling it!

In gathering periodically, we lovers of the Jaguar Marque collectively maintain a fantastic tradition! I’m already looking forward to the 54 th National Rally; an event which, in all-likelihood, will occur after the reveal of the Type 00-inspired GT production Jaguar and simultaneously with Jaguar’s marketing thrust into the premium BEV segment of the market. Our next rally will be another not to be missed!

Friday 4 th April set the scene for a memorable Bathurst gathering of the faithful. From the novel and highly successful format chosen for Rally check-in at glorious Mount Panorama Estate to the program for the Meet-n-Greet event at Rydges Mount Panorama Hotel, Friday was the first of several days of highlights.

Historic and beautiful Bathurst Town Square always held so much promise for our Concours and Display Day event on Saturday 5th. It was a splendid autumn day and large numbers of the public took the opportunity to view the cars. In the evening, the Dinner Dance at Rydges with ‘Trouble With Johnny’ was a ‘cracker’ and so many of us took the opportunity to strut our best moves. The alternative restaurant event was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed.

Sunday 6 th brought Sporting Day at Lithgow; for many the highlight of any rally program. Competition was well organised and keenly contested and, as always, healthy and good-natured State-based rivalries emerged during the teams event which Queensland won albeit with a little assistance from a New South Welshman with conflicting allegiances. For once, our Tassie brothers and sisters had to settle for 2 nd in the teams event. Both alternative tours were created around attractive and imaginative programs and, as a consequence, were heavily booked and very well received.

Sunday evening was centred on the superb Bathurst Goldfields function centre. I suspect all present will long remember our international ‘Haguar’ Formula ‘eh’ keynote speaker Senor Javier Guerrero Aguilar (Sam McCool).

By every account, the Post Rally Tour through the Central West of NSW was outstanding for all delegates lucky enough to have participated. The stories and photos bear testimony to the camaraderie, fun and historical interest generated by the PRT program.

While conducting the Rally, it is pleasing for all of us to know that through our joint XJS bonnet signing fundraiser, we were able to support the Rock Forest Brigade of the Rural Fire Service.

I recommend a review of the results of the Concours and Sporting event on this NR page and a look at the many photos under the Media Tab on the website.

I extend my thanks, and the thanks of all members of the Rally Committee, to each of you who attended and made the 53 rd Jaguar National Rally the success it clearly was. Our thanks also to our wonderful sponsors without whom the 53 rd National Rally would not have been possible in the form we all enjoyed. Our sponsors support us and I encourage you to support them. Finally, I extend my sincere appreciation to JLR for its encouragement and support, including logistical support, for our Rally.

See you at the 54 th !

Best regards,

Michael (Mike) Collett
Rally Director
